How to build a defensive wall in Sons of the Forest
Read here and learn about building a defensive wall in Sons of the Forest, which increases your odds of surviving through the night without enemy attacks.
Sons of The Forest is a mixture of survival crafting and horror, in which you need to survive an island of cannibalistic mutants whilst building bases to protect you, meaning that building a strong base in-game is vital to survival.
How do you build a defensive wall?
You'll see the blueprint for a defensive wall in your guidebook. All it requires is logs, a space to build, and an axe to carve the spikes. Luckily, you can always ask Kelvin to fetch logs for you to save some time.
To line up the logs in a fence, pick one up using the E key. Then, change the orientation by looking at the ground and right-clicking in the space you want to put the log down. The dotted shape will change from a rectangle to a circle indicating that you will put the log down vertically instead of horizontally.
Repeat the process and notice how the circle will now have a line next to it to indicate it will join onto another log next to it.
If you place a log in the wrong spot, just press C to pick it up and move it elsewhere.
Once you have the perimeter of your wall set up, you'll need to spike the tops of the logs to make it defensive. To do this, equip your axe from your inventory and approach one of the logs. As you get close to it you'll notice the outline of a red triangle will appear.
When the red triangle is present left-click to line the axe up, then left-click again to chop the wood, or you can right-click to cancel.
Once you have sharpened the top of the wall with your axe you should be all set.
As of writing, there isn’t a way to attach a gate to the wall meaning you'll either need to use a door (leaving you open to attack) or a ramp which will cut off Kelvin's access to the camp.
