How to get & use a turtle shell in Sons of the Forest

Turtle Shell is an item you can scavenge from dead turtles, but this Sons of the Forest material can be tricky to get if you have spawned in the mountains or forest.
Where can you get a turtle shell
Turtle Shells can be collected from dead turtles near the coast. These turtles tend to spawn in groups on the beachfront. The map below is from MapGenie and is a fully interactive map you can use to locate the turtles.
Players have reported that the prompt to get Turtle Shell seems to only work for sea turtles.
To get the shell from the turtle, you'll need to kill it with any melee weapon and then select the prompt to cut the shell when it has died.
How to use turtle shell
In The Forest, you could use Turtle Shell to craft rain catchers and sleds, but unfortunately, as of writing, there isn’t a use for Turtle Shell in the game. The game is in early access, so this may be subject to change.
For now, you can 3D print a sled to travel quickly down cliffs and a flask to collect water. To craft these items, you need to scavenge for Printer Resin and visit the 3D Printer bunker. If you'd like to find out more visit our Sled guide here.
