Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is yet another Star Wars game set to come out soon, so fans of the galaxy far, far away have even more to look forward to. With the game getting the official subtitle of 'Survivor', we're getting more insight into what's in store for Cal Kestis' next adventure. So, read on for everything we know about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, including the release date, gameplay, trailers, and more.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor release date

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has officially been confirmed to be releasing on April 28, 2023, placing it in the busy first quarter of the year. The next game in the action-adventure series, was first confirmed in a blog post in January of 2022, as well as a first-person shooter and a strategy game that will take place in the Star Wars universe.

At one point, the Steam page for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor did an oopsie and revealed what the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor release date is, placing it on March 15. We now know that's incorrect.

Jedi: Survivor was also originally slated to release on March 17, however a six-week delay pushed it back until the end of April.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor story

Picking up five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues Cal Kestis' story and his struggle to stay one step ahead of the Empire's attempts to expel the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy.

Of course, the ever-faithful BD-1 will return and will be by Cal's side throughout coupled with meeting various new allies on his travels. Although, as implied by the title 'Survivor', the game will be dark in tone and there will be many adversaries to overcome.

Stig Asmussen, Game Director at Respawn had this to say about what's in store for Cal:

“Even before completing Jedi: Fallen Order, our team had a vision of how to carry the adventure for Cal, BD, and the crew into the sequel,”

“For Jedi: Survivor, we are working in lockstep with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal’s story as he matures and survives during the dark times. We can’t wait to share more about the game with the world later this year.”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor trailers

Previously, Bespin Bulletin claimed that the developers were aiming to unveil gameplay footage at the Star Wars Celebration 2022, which lasted from May 26-29. We didn't get that gameplay footage sadly but what we did receive was a teaser trailer providing some juicy insights as to what's to come for Kal.

Here is that first teaser trailer so you can view the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor goodness for yourself:

However, one of the more recent trailers has gleaned the most information about Jedi: Survivor so far. Showcasing some of the threats and new gameplay mechanics that Kestis will have to contend with, it looks to be building on Fallen Order in a huge way.

In addition, it looks like we're going to get some form of companion-based gameplay appearing in Jedi: Survivor. Cere Junda, Bode Akuna, and Merrin can all be seen fighting alongside Cal in one way or another. Give it a watch for yourself below!

The newest, and likely final trailer for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor shows us even more gameplay and story beats that we can expect to see in the final game. Including a more detailed look at the companion characters and Cal's lightsaber combat moves, it's only got us more excited for the game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Gameplay

Cal uses the Force in the predecessor to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, which could have a release date later this year.

Fans likely won’t be able to get a solid understanding of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s gameplay until a gameplay trailer is released. Even so, players will likely get to see many returning mechanics and gameplay elements that defined its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a third-person game that encourages constant re-exploration of previously-visited locations, in the same vein as many games in the two-dimensional Metroidvania style.

While controlling the Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order players could use a lightsaber and the power of the Force to engage in combat with assorted enemies and to solve puzzles. In addition, Cal can unlock new abilities over the course of that game, granting him access to previously inaccessible areas in each of the locations he has already been to.

Of course, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will likely have some new and unique mechanics to distinguish it from its predecessor. However, there currently isn’t any information available about what new mechanics there might be in this game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Characters

Cal will return in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 alongside companion droid BD-1 and fellow crewmates. As shown in the teaser trailer, there are new introductions to the franchise with the notable mysterious-looking long-haired figure surviving in a Bacta Tank.

According to Bespin Bulletin, characters from the original game will have bigger roles than in the previous title. In addition, a plethora of other characters from the Star Wars universe that weren’t in the first game will make appearances in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. However, Bespin Bulletin declined to mention any specific characters that would be in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Platforms

Cal walks in a moving ship in the predecessor to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2, which could have a release date later this year.

So what platforms can you expect Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to be on? Well, for you previous-generation console owners, it's going to be a hard pill to swallow. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is only being developed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC so if you haven't picked up one of these new consoles or have a comparatively powerful PC, you'll need to correct that before 2023.
