Syndicates lie at the heart of everything in Star Wars Outlaws, as they control different areas, provide you with jobs, and run pretty much everything behind the scenes.

As is the case with any competing powers though you're always going to upset someone - even when pleasing another - so understanding where your allegiances lie and how to 'game' the system can come in very handy.

What are the Syndicates?

There are four Syndicates that dominate your time in Star Wars Outlaws: Pyke Syndicate, Crimson Dawn, Hutt Dynasty, and the Ashiga Clan.

There is no 'good' or 'evil' split between these groups, so there isn't often a morally 'correct' choice to pick in the long run. However, siding with a particular Syndicate certainly has its benefits, offering you unique rewards and an increased social standing - in specific circles, of course!

You'll typically find that both the main quest and most side activities you undertake are intertwined with the Syndicates, whether it's them directly giving you jobs, or whether you run into them along the way.

Decisions you make in these moments have ramifications, so you'll want to make sure you're confident in whatever you do.

While definitely not a Syndicate, it would be remiss of me to ignore the looming presence of the Empire too. Imperials have their own districts that are dangerous to enter, but unlike Syndicates you're understandably unable to put your name in good stead with the Empirical forces.

How does reputation work?

Reputation is the system that measures your relationships with each of the four Syndicates, and there are five different stages that you'll fall into: Terrible, Bad, Poor, Good, and Excellent.

Actions that favour a specific Syndicate will obviously increase your reputation and actions you take against them will decrease it. However, you'll find that you can decrease your relationship with one Syndicate simply by working with another, so you'll have to be careful if you want to keep everyone happy.

Your reputation affects how welcome you are in Syndicate-controlled districts, how much work is available for you to take on, the prices at merchants, and also what gifts are available to be earned.

One of the most immediate consequences of a 'Poor' to 'Terrible' reputation is how difficult it is to enter and explore districts controlled by that Syndicate. At 'Poor' you'll be trespassing, at 'Bad' you'll be engaged and shot on sight, and at 'Terrible' you'll have death squads actively hunting you down no matter where you are.

How to increase reputation

Completing Contracts from Job Brokers is the best way to quickly increase your reputation with specific Syndicates, alongside completing general Syndicate-linked tasks.

You'll also want to make sure that you're siding with your Syndicate of choice whenever any decision paths come up, as they will always increase your reputation - often by a significant amount. The downside here is that it's often at the cost of your reputation with another Syndicate, but that's just the way things are in the underworld!

The good thing about Contracts though is that you're often not having to deal with any of the downsides, as they typically only affect the Syndicate in question in a positive manner. This is a great way to increase your reputation with ones that you're not primarily focusing on then, as it removes the risk of degrading your relationship with any others.
