Tales of the Shire trailers, gameplay & platforms
Check out our breakdown of the upcoming Tales of the Shire, a social simulation game set in the world of Middle-Earth, including gameplay details, trailers, platforms, and more.
There are more Lords of the Rings games on the horizon than ever, but one set to come sooner than later is Tales of the Shire, a cosy social simulation where you can become a Hobbit living in the Shire.
We got our first look at gameplay thanks to a trailer recently, which will likely put the game on some people's radars. But what else do we know about Tales of the Shire? Learn more below.
Do we know when Tales of the Shire is out?
Tales of the Shire has no release date yet, but the game's website says it's due out sometime in 2024.
Considering we're near the middle of the year with no confirmed launch date, expect a late 2024 launch.
All trailers so far
The first trailer for Tales of the Shire was the official teaser from September 2023. It featured live-action footage of a Hobbit drawing in a book, before the wind blows it to a series of different pages, ending on the cover that revealed the title.
The gameplay trailer came next, debuting in April 2024 and finally giving us a look at what the world and gameplay look like. It featured a bunch of scenes of the Shire, showing Hobbits socialising, exploring, and farming.
During the trailer, it also switched between a few different seasons, which altered the colour palette of the world massively.
What is the gameplay like?
It's set to be a social simulation game where you take control of a Hobbit in the town of Bywater in the Shire. You'll find plenty of similarities with titles like Stardew Valley or Disney Dreamlight Valley, with the game allowing you to take part in lots of customisation and extra activities.
You can create your own home completely, with unique furniture and decor letting you customise the inside to your own liking. Outside of this, you can explore the town to visit the shops of other Hobbits and take part in activities like fishing, cooking, foraging, gardening, and more.
The ultimate goal is to achieve village status for Bywater and help the community by throwing the best Bywater Festival possible. We assume the seasons from the trailer will have big effects on gameplay too, but we don't know enough to say with certainty yet.
What are the platforms?
The game is confirmed to be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch on release.
