Will Tekken 8 have crossplay?
Tekken 8 is on the way, and players on different platforms can expect to play against each other on whichever platform they are on with crossplay.
Tekken 8 crossplay would be an excellent addition for friends on different platforms, as well as the whole community. Tekken 8 is riding a wave of popularity the series hasn't seen in many years, and may bring more people into the franchise than ever before. Crossplay would be a boon to that, making sure players on all platforms can play together. So it begs the question, will Tekken 8 have crossplay?
Any questions about crossplay in Tekken 8 were answered by series director Katsuhiro Harada in a thread on Twitter. In typical Harada fashion, someone asked him a straight question so he gave a straight answer.
Responding to the question of crossplay, Harada said "Crossplay? Of course I will", then proceeded to explain that he had proposed crossplay years earlier but was met with roadblocks. "At that time, they (Xbox and Playstation) were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused."
Seemingly, crossplay has been a desired feature for Harada and the Tekken team for some time, and now with Tekken 8, they can accomplish this.
While the wording wasn't totally specific, it seems safe to infer that Tekken 8 will have crossplay across all available platforms. The largest issue was with crossplay between the two major consoles, and that issue seems to be resolved.
As such, players can expect to play against their friends regardless of whether they play on PC via Steam, Xbox Series S or X, or on PlayStation 5. As best as we can tell, Tekken 8 will not be coming to previous generation consoles.
