If you're struggling to get access to to the beta via Steam, then there is thankfully another method of obtaining a key that's fairly foolproof.

Steelseries is running a giveaway via its Steelseries GG app. Usually, the app is used as a way to manage your Steelseries products, but also a way of recording and sharing gameplay clips online.

However, you can claim a beta key for THE FINALS via the app if you sign up. Here's what you need to dio:

  • Download and install the Steelseries GG app from the website.
  • Create an account and log in.
  • Head to the 'Giveaways' tab in the Steeleries GG app.
  • Look for THE FINALS beta key and click on it to redeem.
  • Redeem the key via Steam and enjoy your access to THE FINALS beta.

Start and end date

THE FINALS closed beta is set to begin on Tuesday, March 7. The playtest will run for a full two weeks until Tuesday, March 21.

Overall, that's a lengthy time for players to get to grips with the new game. In turn, this should help developer Embark Studios harvest plenty of data to help balance the game before its full release later in 2023.

What is THE FINALS?

If you haven't already heard about THE FINALS, it's a brand new competitive shooter from the team at Embark Studios in Stockholm. The team was created by a number of ex-DICE developers that worked on Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, so there is plenty of pedigree there.

“Many of us at Embark have been building first-person shooters for more than two decades, but just when we thought we were finished with the genre, we unlocked a developer’s Holy Grail,” says Rob Runesson, executive producer of THE FINALS

“With server-side destruction and movement, almost everything in THE FINALS can be wrecked. We want to breathe new life into a genre that’s frankly grown slightly monotonous, and can't wait to test THE FINALS with a large number of players to see if they agree, so we can keep improving the experience ahead of launch.”

THE FINALS is described as "the ultimate virtual combat game show", and involves team-based modes that utilise plenty of destructive environments and physics-based gameplay. To top it all off, the game will be free to play when it launches.

Included in the closed beta will be two maps. One will be a set of skyscrapers set high above the streets of downtown Seoul. The other will be a representation of old-town Monaco on the French Riviera.

Three modes of play will be available to choose from: Quickplay, Ranked Tournaments, and Practice Range.

Of course, with plenty of ambitious and experimental features on show in THE FINALS, expect the beta to be a little rough around the edges in some places. This initial public playtest is ultimately to help the developer craft the game into the best it can be.
