While the core gameplay loop of THE FINALS remains similar in all modes of play - shoot enemies and blow stuff up - there are a few different gameplay variations to be aware of.

Whether you're looking for longer and competitive tournament-based gameplay, or just a quick match to fill 10 minutes of boredom, there's a game mode for you in this fast-paced shooter. What's more, developer Embark is adding new game modes with subsequent seasons, with a brand new mode just added for Season 2.

Below, I'll walk you through all the different game modes that are currently available to play within THE FINALS.

Game modes in THE FINALS

There are three main options to choose from once you press play and go in to select a Game Mode:

  • Practice
  • Quickplay
  • Tournaments

Each of these modes dictates roughly how much time you'll spend in the game. For example, Practice is intended for players to learn the mechanics of the game and improve their skills. You can spend as much time as you like there.

Meanwhile, Quickplay involves casual modes that usually last between 10 and 15 minutes. If you're looking for more high stakes, competitive gameplay, choose Tournaments - these can sometimes last upwards of 30 to 45 minutes depending on your skill.

Once you select one of the above options, you'll then be taken to another screen to refine your search even further.

Quickplay game modes in THE FINALS

The three different modes in Quickplay are Quick CashBank It, and Power Shift, with the latter only added recently in Season 2.

Quick Cash

This mode consists of three teams of three, all of whom are trying to steal the contents of a vault for themselves. The winner of this game mode is the first team to extract two vaults.

If you die and a teammate doesn't revive you, you'll have to wait 12 seconds before coming back in. This mode relies on communicating and working together with your squad to secure the win. It's also a much more casual rendition of the Tournament modes, so it's the perfect place to practice.

Bank It

This mode is very similar to Quick Cash, but now there's an extra team in there to contend with. Any player who dies will drop all the money they have been holding and the winner is the team who has the most money after 15 minutes - or whoever reaches $40,000 first.

Think of it a little like your classic Team Deathmatch, but with some slightly higher stakes in there to think about.

Power Shift

Power Shift is the latest game mode to be added to THE FINALS, and sees two teams of five battling it out for possession of a moving platform. To capture the platform, you'll need at least one member of your team standing on it at all times. While it's in your possession, it will move along a predetermined track, knocking down any building that stands in its path.

A team wins once the platform has moved all the way to the end of the track, or whichever team has moved it the closest to their base after the timer runs out.

Tournaments in THE FINALS

Ranked modes in THE FINALS

The two Tournament types are Ranked and Unranked. To qualify for Unranked, you will need to have played 12 rounds, whilst Ranked requires 60 rounds played.

Unranked Tournaments

Once you qualify you can jump on in, as these games do not impact your rank. The point of this mode is to practice before diving into the ranked modes, as it's a bit more relaxed.

The games are nine minutes long and require players to raid different vaults and deposit the funds, with the team with the most at the end winning.

Ranked Tournaments

Ranked is the same as Unranked, but you can tinker with your loadout in between games and of course, the games will contribute to your ranking.

Practice

The two modes in the Practice section are the Tutorial from when you first fire up the game as well as a Practice Range so you can, as the name suggests, practice to your heart's content.

Also added in Season 2, you can now play all of the modes above as a Private Match. To set one up, head to the Private Match menu - it's listed next to Quick Play, Tournament, and Practice when you press Play on the main launch screen.
