As mentioned, eating lettuce as part of a meal can regain satiety. Satiety is determined by how much damage you have taken and how much you've traversed. It acts as the game's hunger meter, when low your passive health regeneration will be much slower. When you have a green level of satiety, you'll regenerate passive health more quickly.
