So if you want to know everything there is to know about this upcoming grand strategy game, here's our breakdown of the Victoria 3 release date and more.
Victoria 3 Release Date
Victoria 3 is set to release on October 25, which is exactly three weeks away as of writing this. The game went a long time without any official release date or vague release window, so it was a big surprise when Paradox finally revealed the October release date recently, as many expected to wait until 2023.
Victoria 3 Trailers
The announcement trailer for Victoria 3 came during PDXCON 2021, finally confirming the game was in development after 11 years since the second game dropped. The trailer described the unprecedented change that was made across the world during the Industrial Revolution, and how society was altered beyond recognition in a relatively small amount of time. The trailer also featured artwork that depicted various moments from the Industrial Revolution, such as machines in action as smoke rose high, the Titanic setting sail, the women's suffrage movement, flying blimps, and much more.
Shortly after the reveal trailer, beginning in July 2021, the monthly update series began that detailed how Victoria 3 differed from previous entries and what features it contained. Each one went over the progress that had been made, and focused on specific aspects of the game that were slowly unveiled over each monthly update.
The next big trailer came in June 2022, and was the long-awaited gameplay trailer that gave players a look at the map, menus, and more. The narrator spoke about the general idea of the game and how it works, while also speaking of the different gameplay features such as trade, production, war, and much more.
Victoria 3 Gameplay
Victoria is a grand strategy simulation game that sees you control a country over a 100-year period from 1836 to 1936, covering the Industrial Revolution and the great changes that came with it to humanity. The core of the experience involves the use of politics to serve your overall objective, whether that's maintaining your country through isolationism, or growing rapidly with expansionism and colonial affairs.
A large aspect of gameplay revolved around population demographics in the various countries, such as farm workers, city workers, the gentry, and more, all of which have needs and desires that they want fulfilled. Populations also share ideologies that they want enacted, but you can choose to listen to them or ignore them entirely.
While war is a part of the experience, and you can use it to defend your land or expand aggressively, anything you can achieve with war can also be achieved with careful diplomacy and politicking. Through the use of pacts, relations, alliances, and rivalries, you can make your plays on the global stage and improve the prosperity of your nation and empire. The political ideologies you can make use of to meet your objectives are wide-ranging, allowing you to espouse liberal, humanist values of democracy and freedom, or enact strict authoritarian regimes based on control and power. Your toy box, your toys.
Victoria 3 Platforms
Victoria 3 will only be available for the PC, specifically on the Steam platform. Crusader Kings 3 released onto Xbox Game Pass shortly after its release, and it's possible this could happen for Victoria 3 in the near future.
