When Is Mei Coming Back To Overwatch 2?
In the announcement post declaring that Mei would be temporarily disabled, Blizzard states that they plan to reintroduce Mei to Overwatch 2 on November 15, 2022. This date would mark a roughly two-week absence for Mei. During this period, Blizzard hopes to address the issues with Mei's Ice Wall and hopefully ensure that it doesn't cause any more problems in the future.
Overwatch 2's launch has been plagued by all sorts of issues. Bastion and Torbjorn got disabled thanks to bugs of their own but have since been fixed and added back. As an apology for the slew of troubles, Blizzard is issuing a free Overwatch 2 Reaper Skin for players to collect and add to their Hero Gallery.
Why Was Mei Removed From Overwatch 2?
On October 31, 2022, Mei was removed from Overwatch 2 due to an exploit relating to her Ice Wall ability. Combining Overwatch 2 Mei's Ice Wall with other Hero abilities, like Overwatch 2 Kiriko's Swift Step, would allow players to reach unintended locations.
This isn't the first time Mei's Ice Wall has caused issues in Overwatch. Mei's Ice Wall is primarily used to block enemy movement and gunfire, but it also has alternative uses, like lifting Mei and teammates vertically to spots that otherwise would be difficult, if not impossible, to reach. With Overwatch 2 bringing new Heroes and abilities to the forefront, it appears Mei's Ice Wall is once again being used for nefarious purposes.
When Mei finally returns, it won't be long until the Overwatch 2 Ramattra release date.
