The first iteration may not have cost players anything, but will Call of Duty Warzone 2 be free? Infinity Ward's wildly popular battle royale Call of Duty Warzone has a sequel in development. With the title being a significant sequel to the game, there may be a couple of things that are changing. The question that's on everyone's lips, though, is whether Warzone 2 will still be free.

Call of Duty Warzone 2: Is it free?

Luckily for us players, Activision Blizzard has confirmed that Call of Duty Warzone 2 will be free to play. This is fantastic news that should be expected as the original is also free to play. This monetisation model follows in the footsteps of many big battle royales and seems to be a trend of the genre.

However, while Warzone 2 will be free to play for all players, its battle pass will overlap with the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. That means players will be able to progress their battle pass level by playing both Warzone and Modern Warfare 2. Cosmetic items and XP boosts will be shared across the two games as well. However, Modern Warfare 2 will not be free to play.

Call of Duty Warzone 2: Release Date and Platforms

According to some leaked internal Activision Blizzard documents, it appears that Warzone 2 will be dropping on the 16th of November 2022, which is a few weeks after Modern Warfare 2. This is yet to be confirmed so there's no real official date of release just yet. Call of Duty Warzone 2 is expected to be available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, and Battle.net.

Call of Duty Warzone 2: Gameplay Leaks

There are a couple of things that we know are changing from Warzone to Warzone 2. We know that there's going to be a brand new map made entirely for the game mode. According to leaks, this map seems to be based on Colombia and will have 18 points of interest for players to explore and battle through.

On top of this, we know that all player progression will be reset, so everyone's going to start on an equal playing field on launch. No player progression from the original Warzone will continue into Warzone 2, but the original Warzone will still remain in existence in some capacity. That means not all of your progress is lost.

Finally, there's potential for the way in which players unlock Loadouts through a new Stronghold mechanic. These Strongholds will likely appear throughout the map, which players will need to clear in order to gain a loadout.
