If you're more of a burst fan when it comes to assault rifles, you'll likely be using the M16A4 in XDefiant. It's a strong weapon in its default state, but you can buff it even further with the right loadout of attachments and equipment.

Attachments

  • Muzzle: Muzzle Booster
  • Barrel: Chrome Lined
  • Front Rail: Super Light
  • Optics: Reflex Sight or Holo Sight
  • Rear Grip: Lightweight
  • Stock: Precision Stock

The Muzzle Booster is a solid starting choice that increases the fire rate slightly. This doesn't refer to the time between bursts, but the actual bursts themselves, allowing you to send out lead quicker overall.

For the barrel, I've highlighted the Chrome Lined attachment which gives the gun a big damage boost at close and medium ranged, at the cost of a slower aim-down-sight (ADS) speed. To counteract this slower ADS speed, the Super Light attachment is a great choice that also provides a movement speed buff.

A sight is vital for the M16, but you don't want something clunky, leaving the Reflex or Holo Sights. Considering most of your battles with this weapon will be at range, it'll come in handy.

Our final attachments are the Lightweight Rear Grip and Precision Stock, which help with the recoil and recoil recovery. The former also boosts the ADS walking speed slightly.

Equipment

  • Device: Flash Grenade
  • Secondary: Sawed-Off Shotgun or 93R

Due to the weakness the M16 has at closer ranges (even with the attachments above), I've chosen equipment that helps you in those near engagements.

The Flash Grenade gives you an extra tool for clearing rooms and choke points, and ensures you have the upper hand should you have to fight closer than you'd like.

For the secondary, the Sawed-Off Shotgun or 93R both work well. The 93R is more versatile with a slightly longer range, but the Sawed-Off has massive damage potential when you're in breathing range. It really comes down to how you play, but you can't go wrong with either.
