The M249 excels in close-to-mid range fights and is the most dynamic of the LMGs available in XDefiant. Even with its powerful core stats, there's no reason not to push it further with the right weapon loadout.

Attachments

  • Barrel: Stabilising Barrel
  • Front Rail: Tactical Grip
  • Optic: Reflex Sight
  • Rear Grip: Lightweight Grip
  • Stock: Padded Stock

I think the Stabilising Barrel is a good start for some extra horizontal and vertical recoil control, with the Tactical Grip making up for its negatives by improving the recoil recovery and aim-down-sight (ADS) speed.

With the Reflex Sight being the best of the short-to-mid range optics with no drawbacks, it's the best choice to give you some extra sight.

At the back, you can start with the Lightweight Grip for even more recoil recovery and increased ADS movement speed. Finally, the Padded Stock brings it all together with extra ADS stability and flinch control to ensure you keep your sights trained on the enemy even with getting shot.

For some alternatives, you can go for a more spray and pray build by using the Chrome Lined Barrel and PEQ-15 Front Rail attachment. This gives you better close-to-mid range accuracy and improved hipfire shots respectively, especially in smaller maps or tighter areas.

Equipment

  • Device: Frag Grenade
  • Secondary: 93R

The Frag is a classic and easy to use throwable that gives you lots of utility on top of extra damage. If you're holding a point, it's a good way to stop pushes or damage a group of enemies, making them easier to kill.

My personal recommendation for your secondary would be the 93R, a powerful burst-fire pistol with a surprisingly fast fire rate and high damage. With the slow reload time innate to the M249, this gives you an extra option to down any enemies in sight.
