Typical for any multiplayer game that's newly released, there are many questions about XDefiant's Ranked Mode, such as how it will work, when it will release, and what makes it worth playing over the standard mode.

The game has been out for a few weeks as of writing this, and is currently in a preseason period that will end with the launch of the official first season in early July.

If you're enjoying your time with XDefiant so far and want to start getting more competitive with it, learn all about Ranked Mode below.

When is Ranked Mode releasing?

The full release of Ranked Mode currently has no concrete release date, so we don't know exactly when it will be available.

While there is a ranked trial for some players currently, the developers have previously said Ranked Mode will launch in a future season. We expect this will arrive with Season 1, which is set to launch on July 2, 2024.

We'll update this section once this is confirmed.

There's still a lot we don't really know about the upcoming Ranked Mode, such as what ranks or divisions there will be, and if there are any rewards for players.

However, the Ranked Mode trial does let us know what maps and game modes to expect in the full version.

There are four game modes confirmed currently: Occupy, Domination, Escort, and Zone Control.

There are also 13 maps available in the mode. These are Arena, Attica Heights, Dumbo, Echelon HQ, Emporium, Liberty, Mayday, Meltdown, Midway, Nudleplex, Pueblito, Showtime, and Times Square.

Ranked Mode matchmaking explained

Ubisoft has also explained the system behind matchmaking for Ranked Mode in a blog post, listing the main factors that determine your finding a match. Here are the factors explained:

  • Rank Points (RP) - Only matches within an acceptable rank range
  • Latency - Matches with similar ping and connectivity
  • Party Size - Matches with squads of a similar size
  • Region - Matches with players from the same region or language
  • Input Device - Matches with players using the same input method
  • Platform - Matches with players using the same platforms

These factors only influence you finding a match. Once the lobby itself is populated with players, you'll be balanced based on your skill ratings to ensure a fair lobby.
