You'll want to know, what are Chasms in Tears of the Kingdom? The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom follows along the general formula established in Breath of the Wild, but it makes a lot of changes to the world, adding more content above and below ground for players to explore.

One of the most noticeable changes, once you arrive in the game's open world, will be large Chasms all across the floor. So, if you want to know what Chasms are in Tears of the Kingdom, check out our explanation below.

In Tears of the Kingdom, Chasms are large crevices on the surface which allow you to enter the Depths region located below ground.

Chasms are noticeable by the red liquid spilling out of them called Gloom, which is also clearly shown on the map, allowing you to easily identify entrances to the Depths.

If you want to use a Chasm to enter the Depths in TotK, do the following

  • Drop down into the Chasm
  • Accelerate downwards until you see the floor
  • Use your glider before you hit the ground

Down in the Depths, you can freely explore a massive region that mirrors the size of the surface world directly above.

While you can take part in lots of side content in the Depths, there is also a main quest down here, meaning you'll be directed down a Chasm later in the game's story.

That's all for our explainer of Chasms in Tears of the Kingdom, and now you know they allow players to enter the Depths from the surface.

We also have an explainer of how to use Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Zonai Wings to traverse the world faster.
