How to find all the Great Fairy Fountains in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Check out this guide to see all Great Fairy Fountain map locations in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, alongside the required musical instruments for each one.
Finding the location of all the Great Fairy Fountains in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will go a long way to helping you on Link's journey across Hyrule. Over the years, we have grown used to seeing the Great Fairies appear, and once again, they're as important as ever.
However, in this game, they aren't quite as easy to find as before. In Breath of the Wild, you would simply approach them in the world, make an offering of Rupees and they would burst into life. Considering Great Fairies are the only way you can upgrade your armor in TotK, it's crucial to find them.
So, check out the rest of this guide below to see all of the Great Fairy Fountain map locations in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, in addition to what you'll need to do for each one as well.

Great Fairy Fountain Tera
The first Great Fairy Fountain in TotK can be found just to the north of the Woodland Stable, and this is the first one that you should visit and complete.
You will need to open up this one in particular before any others as it forms the band that will travel around to the other stables, allowing you to unlock them too.
Specifically, this Great Fairy Fountain is found northwest of Central Hyrule, on the border of the Eldin region in Hyrule.

Great Fairy Fountain Cotera
The second Great Fairy Fountain in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is located just south of the Duelling Peaks stable. This is in the Necluda region of Hyrule and is to the east of Lake Hylia and south of Kakariko Village.
You will need to find a way across the fast-flowing river, though you've thankfully got the Ultrahand rune ability to help out with that.
Great Fairy Fountain Mija
For the third Great Fairy Fountain map location, you will want to travel to the north of the map, around the Tabantha Tundra. This is found specifically to the north of the Snowfield Stable, which sits in between the Hebra Mountains and the Great Hyrule Forest.
It is quite chilly once you get to this area, and gets even colder when you step up to the fountain itself, so make sure to bring some cold-resistant food or gear in order to stave off the harsh temperatures.

Great Fairy Fountain Kaysa
The final Great Fairy Fountain map location in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is found right next to the Outskirt Stable. You'll be able to get there by heading southwest from Hyrule Field, and stopping just before you take the bridge to the Gerudo region.
The fountain itself is just to the west of the stable up on a ridge, so make sure that you don't miss it when you're passing through.

How to unlock each Great Fairy Fountain
Instead of offering rupees to the Great Fairy Fountains, you will need to find specific musical instruments to open them up in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Check out the table below to see what musical instrument you'll need to get for each Great Fairy Fountain in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom:
Great Fairy Fountain | Sound Required |
Tera | Sound of a violin |
Cotera | Sound of a drum |
Mija | Sound of a horn |
Kaysa | Sound of a flute |
The musicians in question are found throughout Hyrule and are not necessarily near their respective Great Fairy Fountain. You will usually need to complete a specific quest for them before they make their way over to the nearby stable, but you will also need to make sure to complete the sound of a violin quest first before you get started on the others.

What do Great Fairy Fountains do?
Great Fairy Fountains in TotK will improve your armor in exchange for specific materials. You can upgrade your armor multiple times, and having a full set with at least two upgrades can sometimes give special bonuses.
Each item will typically require different items to upgrade too, with some of the rarer armor pieces also needing rare ingredients in return to upgrade.
You will need to open up a new Great Fairy Fountain every time you want to increase your armor to the next level, but once you have done that all existing Fountains will have access to the full upgrade path.
So, that's everything you need to know about Great Fairy Fountains in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, giving you all of their map locations and what you'll need to do to unlock them too.
