DXRacer Air Review - It's A Breath Of Fresh Chair
The DXRacer Air manages to offset the pitfalls of traditional gaming chairs and be something entirely new - but at a price.
Though gaming chairs often have stacks of advantages, especially if you’re a seasoned gamer looking to kit out your PC, they often fall into the same pitfalls. Sure, you might be getting incredibly solid support, the perfect form for gaming all while looking swish as all hell, but gaming chairs have habits of becoming sweaty and overbearing, especially if they’re made of leather, or as incredibly heavy as the current industry standard.
It’s very difficult to avoid this when trying to implement all of the fancy features that are commonplace in gaming chairs - but one company might have cracked this. You might recognise DXRacer as the chair holding up your favourite streamers, but now there’s a chance they’ve innovated the next great thing in the world of gaming chairs.
Breathability
The greatest asset in the DXRacer Air’s arsenal is what sets it apart from every other chair on the market - its breathability. In summer especially, it’s easy for gaming chairs to get a little… gross. Thankfully the Air has innovated on this with a simple solution, by making the body of the chair out of mesh supported by a plastic frame, leaving gaps for air to travel freely.
The chair might seem as though it could be less supportive or easier to break than other similar chairs, but in my time using it, there have been zero signs of wear, or any indication that the integrity of the mesh is loosening. Though gaming chairs traditionally have a much tougher and thicker build, the Air trades this off for a more streamlined experience - and is all the better for it. Though it’s unlikely the chair will last the many years that traditionally designed gaming chairs will, in the time you’ll have it, you’ll be glad of its innovations.
The rest of the build, though, is an incredibly tough plastic, which makes up durability points while trading away simple comfort. The chair is a dream to sit, work and play in, but only as long as you’re sat straight upwards. Tilt too far to the left or right, and you’ll be met with a jabbing from the hard material. The chair will comfortably accommodate you, so long as you’re sat perpendicular.
Structure
The building process of the chair is surprisingly much less painful than we've come to expect from gaming chairs of its style. The chair was in one piece after a solo 15-minute building session and has held fast ever since without showing any signs of wear. If you need something that's not going to cause you a headache to construct, then the Air will definitely do the trick.
Though it is worth noting - I am 6"3, of course taller than the average customer, and not the target audience for the DXRacer Air. The headrest sits just at the top of my shoulder blades at the absolute tallest setting, which isn't exactly ideal for me - but when adjusting so that the headrest accommodates my head as though I were shorter, it's incredibly comfortable. Each of the DXRacer Air's parts come together to make an incredibly comfortable chair that not only does away with the stuffiness of standard gaming chairs, but still offers the ergonomics of a great desk chair too.
Verdict
The DXRacer Air is a versatile chair that does away with the pitfalls of common gaming chairs and rejects the most common complaints in similar saddles. The long-term durability of the chair itself remains to be seen given its main component being mesh, and it might be a little expensive - but it proves itself as a chair you can use for gaming just as easily as you can for getting some work done.
If you suffer from the sweaty backs that gaming chairs can often offer, and you need a little breathability, there's genuinely no better chair on the market for you than the DXRacer Air.
