Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 Headphones review: Believe the hype

2024 is the year of the headphones, I am calling it right now. Sound clarity and quality is at the top of the menu and this year we deserve to listen to our media of choice to the best possible standard.

Enter the Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 headphones. Upon first inspection you may be thinking to yourself, “It’s just another pair of headphones…” but honestly, hear me out because these headphones have got me considering binning off earphones for good. 

Best-in-class comfort

Headphones have always been a bit of an issue with me. Without going overly in-depth on my biography, I possess an odd-shaped head with a double crown, which has always made both wearing and positioning headphones a bit of an issue.

For gaming, keeping headphones on for over an hour would cause irritation and pain on the top of my skull, and I must admit I have snapped two pairs of Beats headphones accidentally when removing them from my head before. The Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 does things differently though in a way that works so well for me.

Firstly, the comfort they offer is unrivalled. The padding and sponging around the over-the-head bar is perfection. I tested them out when editing some video footage and had them on my head for a good three hours, not that I could tell they were on. They don’t feel heavy like so many older headphone models and don’t put as much pressure on the top of your head as well.

They nestle comfortably there and don’t scooch around when you move as well. They are rigid, but comfortable, and can completely block out sounds from the world around you for maximum concentration levels.

Living up to the hype

Now we can switch focus to the sound quality. This is the main reason you would want to buy some headphones, I imagine. Headphones offer a far superior level of sound quality to your standard earbuds, so if you are planning on spending over £300 on a pair of headphones, you want them to be the best quality you can get.

Well for me, the Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 delivers on all fronts. Whether it's playing games or listening to your favourite music or podcasts, the sound produced by the headphones delivers on every front you could want.

They can go loud if you so desire, but not to the level where I feel they would damage your hearing. The noise cancelling is superb as well. You can really zone out and focus on whatever you desire without the interruption of the outside world, which is absolutely perfect if you are stuck on a challenging puzzle in a game or want to really get into an album listen-through without being disturbed by those around you.

The best part is that no matter how loud you choose to play your media through the headphones, it does not blare out to the outside world like so many earbuds do. The noise stays in your headphones and straight into your ears without bothering anyone else, meaning you can listen to your cringe playlist on full without having to embarrass yourself or be worried about others hearing what you are listening to.

Battery built for marathons

I have to point out just how impressive the battery life on these headphones is as well. The Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 will deliver 80 hours worth of uninterrupted battery life from just one single charge. It has a built-in microphone as well, so you don’t need to have your microphone down when gaming with your friends or have to deal with speaking into a microphone when answering calls or making content for your various social media platforms.

Two different types of ear pads come with the headphones as well that change with ease, giving you the option to try a new one if the ear pads that come with the headphones irritate you a bit.

The verdict

Overall, the Edifier STAX SPIRIT S3 headphones are a spectacular addition to your audio collection. Although the price may seem a little high at first, do not let this put you off because you will absolutely get your money's worth when it comes to both durability and usage amount.

I have never experienced a pair of headphones as comfy as these and, despite rigorous tests, I cannot find a single fault with them at all. Everything you could want and need from a pair of headphones is provided to a top-notch standard and if these were not on your wishlist already, I highly recommend you consider adding them to it!
