The Flexispot E7 Standing Desk has been a such wonderful addition to my life that I'm genuinely worried about one day having to use a normal desk at home again. While the high price point doesn't make it for everyone, if you can afford the luxury of a standing desk and typically spend a lot of time sitting for work or hobbies, I strongly recommend you invest.

A few years ago, the idea of a standing desk didn't particularly appeal to me. "Why would I want to do work or play games standing up" I declared like an arrogant fool, unaware of just how detrimental to my health sitting all day can really be.

Now my feelings have evolved a lot, and after spending over a month using the Flexispot E7 Standing Desk, the flexibility and benefits of a standing desk are something I never want to go without ever again.

Crafting time

While I was looking forward to receiving my Flexispot E7 Standing Desk for a few reasons, I wasn't particularly enthused with the prospect of putting it all together.

The desk comes in three separate boxes, with one containing the actual desktop, and the others housing the electronics, legs, and other miscellaneous items you'll need to put it all together. I was pleasantly surprised how easy the whole process was though; the instructions are easy-to-follow and none of the steps are too complex.

Overall, it took me just over an hour to build the desk on my own, with a screwdriver (which is also provided) being the only tool that was vital. It's a good idea to bring a drill too, as you sadly can't fix the cable management attachment to the bottom of the desk without it, and it makes attaching the touchscreen element far easier.

It's worth noting how heavy this thing can be when put together, so I'd recommend building it in the room you intend to use it in, otherwise you face the Herculean ordeal of pushing it where you want it.

It really ties the set-up together

the Flexispot E7 Standing Desk in an office

After suffering with a tiny, ugly desk for far too long, the Flexispot E7 Standing Desk was a breath of fresh air in terms of space and aesthetic for my computer set-up. With a rough length of 120cm and width of 80cm, the desk comes with a tonne of space for all manner of equipment and peripherals, and can handle up to 161kg, more than enough to support your hardware and the average human adult.

I only rock a single monitor, with speakers either side and a mic boom attached to the desktop, so I had tonnes of space to sit my monitor deep and move back my mouse and keyboard to rest my arms on the desk during use. It's not exactly hard to use up all the space, as a computer tower and two monitors would run most of the length, but it's open enough to support a variety of different set-ups whether you're a gamer, music producer, editor etc.

The Flexispot E7 Standing Desk also just looks damn nice and really stands out as a centrepiece to any office or gaming room. The version I received has a black frame with the mahogany desktop, which has a really professional look to it, but there are a few different combinations you can for thanks to the three frame colours and nine desktop styles.

Standing order

The real selling point of the Flexispot E7 Standing Desk is its flexibility, as with the press of a button you can raise or lower the desk to exactly where you need it between the ranges of 58-123cm from the floor. All of this is achieved by plugging the motor in (so get a spare plug socket) and using the touchscreen.

The touchscreen is fixed just under the edge of the front of the desk and comes with four programmable buttons that you can use to make presets, a child lock, and up and down buttons to adjust the height as needed. There's also a USB port on the right side, which is a useful extra for charging a phone or connecting another peripheral. Much like building the thing, using it is extremely easy too, and since setting my standing and sitting presets, I've not had to use any of the other buttons.

I'm sure anyone reading a review for a standing desk understands the benefits of using one, but in short, my body is thanking me for making the switch. The general health benefits of standing over sitting are quite obvious, but being in a standing position also really encourages you to move around more. I often walk laps around my room while thinking during my writing process now, and it helps to wake me up a little quicker in the morning.

The Flexispot E7 Standing Desk is also an excellent investment if you want to work on your posture. I have an anterior pelvic tilt and other small health issues from being sedentary for years, and while it can be hard to adjust for the first few days, standing for hours does a lot for subtly pushing you into the right posture, and I feel all the better for it. Just make sure you have a carpet to stand on, otherwise, your feet may start to get sore.
