The Streamplify 14'' Glow Light out of the box

As is usual with most Streamplify products, the 14'' Glow Light was packaged well, with inserts to keep the hardware stable in transit. There were scratch marks along the LCD panel, however, which is unfortunate but doesn't affect the functionality of the unit, thankfully.

In the box, you'll receive the main light panel, a desk clamp (adjustable and capable of reaching up to 91cm), the power cable and a remote control (AAA batteries not included).

The remote control is a fantastic inclusion, as you can control the lighting settings without having to reach the LCD panel. This is especially handy for those who have larger desk setups.

Setting up is as simple as plugging in the power cable, screwing the light panel onto the desk clamp, which then screws onto your desk and turning it on.

Once on, the desk will emit a low buzzing sound, typical of lights at this wattage (40W). This is something to consider however if you have sensory issues and need absolute quiet.

The light is relatively light and compact, making it an excellent option for people living in flats, shared accommodation, or smaller houses.

Streamplify 14'' Glow Light: Key features

Light range and quality

As mentioned, the Streamplify 14'' Glow Light is built to be a backlight, an alternative to large stands or softbox lighting kits. In this regard, it’s a space-savers dream for anyone looking to get into streaming or content creation.

Although the light is advertised as emitting a soft illumination, you can crank up the intensity to the point that the light looks more like a small moon.

Within OBS, the light does a great job of illuminating video capture with a soft glow, depending on the colour setting you choose from the four available and the intensity from the 20 different options. It can create a natural-looking ambient light for your setup and even at its dimmest option the Streamplify 14'' Glow Light can be blinding.

The lighting that it does produce is of a 90 CRI (colour rendering index), meaning the light has a good level of colour clarity, slightly more premium in the range from the standard 80 CRI. In this, you'll notice that certain tones of colour will be more accurate in shots as well as textures like food and wood.

With a max brightness of 2500 lumens, the light reaches a commercial level of brightness, meaning you could use the light for other uses, especially if you opt for the standing mount rather than the desk mount.

Rotational movement and versatility

The light also has a rotational movement of about 90 degrees, meaning it can face outwards or be moved to face down.

This is an excellent feature for any miniature model hobbyist as it can be used as a light to take detailed photos of painted miniatures or any other figure. Indeed, it could extend beyond this and be a great source of lighting for anyone promoting small businesses and merchandise.

Although many miniature hobbyists like to use lights when painting, I wouldn’t advise it for that as it is just a tad too bright and could irate eyes after a while.
